Wardrobe sale at Iris – to be continued
2013-12-12
Another impression from the wardrobe sale of Iris. Portrait of Iris by Edel Verzijl.
Monika sits on a black Binaria stool, wearing a Stetson hat and a deconstructed woollen jacket by Comme des Garcons, all from the Private Collection Sale of Iris. Boots by Ann Demeulemeester, trousers by MMM for H&M.
The Binaria is a rather comfortable seating, unique in its design. It has been developed by the doctor Jordi Badia in co-operation with industrial designer Otto Canalda. Being not simply a stool, it is a seat designed on well researched medical principles. The patented shape of the seat guarantees the healthiest position of the backrest in relation to the legs. It takes good care of your spine and hips. Really good design.

Wardrobe sale at Iris
2013-12-11
Iris Pia Heneka temporarily hosts a wardrobe sale at her apartment in the heart of Amsterdam. She kindly opened up her home for a photo shoot to show some gems from her collection of furniture and clothing.
The wardrobe sale continues until Sunday, December 15, at the address: Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 102 1st floor, Amsterdam, daily between 3:00-7:00 pm. Don't miss it.
Verena wears shoes by Ballin and a shirt dress by Henrik Vibskov. In her hands she holds Vase Nr. 2 from the series Showtime by Jaime Hayon containing the ashes of her late dog, Doortje. Monika wears a black fur vest of Tibetan goat by Firma Berlin and holds the photograph of Doortje, shot by Winter Vandenbrink. On the floor is a black Jaime Hayon vase, from the collection Heneka & Goldschmidt. Iris' outfit consists of a pair of black corduroys and sweater from COS, boots by Rick Owens and a spectacular hat by Y's [Yohji Yamamoto + Misa Harada collaboration].

Triptych
2013-12-10
I wish more people would have the courage to open up their wardrobes to strangers, just like Iris Pia Heneka does. We waltzed into her private sale at the corner of Overtoom last week, for the first time. We just couldn't leave for hours. While trying on such gems as a vintage Ferragamo silk top or a Comme des Garçons deconstructed woolen coat the idea of coming back was born. But this time with photographer Elina Abdrakhmanova. Please enjoy these very special outfits as much as we did enjoy them.
Verena on the left wears a cap by Diesel, a capelet by Karl Lagerfeld, a vintage Ferragamo silk top and Chloe shoes, MMM for H&M leggings, all from the private sale collection of Iris. Monika wears a headpiece created by Iris Pia Heneka & Niki Milioni, a black fur vest of Tibetan goat by Firma Berlin. Iris wears a jacket by Céline (unfortunately not on sale) with silk pants by Monique van Heist and her very own home slippers. Her turban is made of a shawl from Old Spitalfields Vintage Market London.
The wardrobe sale is on until Sunday, December 15, at the address: Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 102 1st floor, Amsterdam, daily between 3:00-7:00 pm. Be prepared to fall in love either with a piece of clothing or furniture.

Sylvie

Sylvie, photographed by Ralf Mitsch for the series Why I love tattoos. When I look at this picture I do see the tattoos for sure, but that is not what I find the most intriguing. It's all in the contrast between the fragile body and the power of the eyes. Really tough. Really beautiful.

The Sense of an Ending
2013-12-05
You get towards the end of life - no, not life itself, but of something else: the end of any likelihood of change in that life. You are allowed a long moment of pause, time enough to ask the question: what else have I done wrong? ... There is accumulation. There is responsibility. And beyond these, there is unrest. There is great unrest.
It is hard to say anything new about Julian Barnes' book that was not told before. Everybody should read it. But there is something to be mentioned about that cover, Suzanne Dean's beautiful artwork. Astonishing works often take a lot of time: she made some 20 cover options and even then she asked for two more weeks from the author. And yes, she used it all, to hand paint the letters over and over again, and to scan those in. Then she started to manipulate them even further digitally.

... spring refuses to come and things start to disappear, even colours.
A gem by film directors Peter Brosens (B) and Jessica Woodworth (USA). In fact we watched it a couple of weeks ago, but as one Belgian critic promised, it stayed long with us. Outstanding cinematography.

Bravo!

Imagine these sketches come alive. It is just what Compagnie Marie Chouinard did. They performed the ballet Henri Michaux: Mouvements (2005-2011) yesterday in Arnhem, alongside their recent work Gymnopedies (2013). Standing ovation! If you have a chance, don't miss them. Next performances in Arlon (B) December 1 and Budapest (H) December 5-6.

1: Desom, Brut Millésimé, Crémant de Luxembourg, 2009, Luxembourg | 2: Caves Pundel-Sibenaler, Oeil de Perdrix, Pinot Noir Elterberg, Vinifié en blanc, Luxembourg | 3: Desom, Riesling, Wormeldange Koeppchen, Grand Premier Cru, 2011, Luxembourg | 4: Desom, Gewürztraminer, Bech-Kleinmacher Enschberg, Grand Premier Cru, 2011, Luxembourg | 5: Meiomi, Pinot Noir, Monterey - Santa Barbara - Sonoma County, 2011, USA | 6: Domaine Corne-Loup, Lirac, Appellation Lirac Controlée, 2010, France
In the wonderful company of two astronomers we had a little wine tasting yesterday. We tasted the above six wines, the numbering only means the order of the tasting, nothing else. My personal favorites were the Riesling and the Lirac. The Lirac harmonizes beautifully with a piece of edel bitter chili chocolate. Enjoy!
