Being a fashion designer I was trained to keep an inspiration book. It just got beyond control. Books and boxes full of photocopies, photographs, little objects, fabric samples, magazines, notes, drawings you name it. I thought why not order it this way... as sort of a blog.

The Man I Love
2015-12-13

Because your eyes are slant and slow,
Because your hair is sweet to touch,
My heart is high again; but oh,
I doubt if this will get me much.

The Man I Love
2015-12-13

Someday he'll come along
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay
He'll look at me and smile
I'll understand
Then in a little while
He'll take my hand
And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word
Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day
He'll build a little home
That's meant for two
From which I'll never roam
Who would, would you
And so all else above
I'm dreaming of the man I love

Red Right Hand
2015-11-12

The climax, though, comes on the album’s centrepiece, and what is often argued to be The Bad Seeds’ finest moment, Red Right Hand. It delivers its menace quietly at first, a folk tale of some unspecified bogeyman
"A tall handsome man / In a dusty black coat"
who haunts not only the American gothic town depicted in Cave’s lyrics, but your weak, susceptible inner self:
"He’ll appear out of nowhere / And he ain’t what he seems... You’re one microscopic cog / In his catastrophic plan".
- Luke Turner reviewing for BBC Music

Garden delight
2015-11-05

Jonathan Dove's work 'Figures in the garden' from 1991 is a serenade for wind octet. The Nederlands Saxofoon Octet has it on its repertoire and this is how I got the chance to listen to it live.

Inspired by Mozart's opera, 'The Marriage of Figaro' the piece was meant to be performed as the audience were eating their picnics. More to discover at bbc.co.uk

"Kondomania"
2015-09-11

"It is not our memories but the person we have become because of those past experiences that we should treasure."

In: Kondo, Marie: The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying. Vermilion. London. 2014. pg. 140

The book that does not really need any introduction is not just about tidying up, as it shows from the quote above. Great read. And more than that.
