Without roots, a tree cannot stand. [African proverb]

Calligraphy by Hassan Massoudy.

He started calligraphy as a child at the elementary school and from the age of sixteen he started working as an apprentice calligrapher with several famous calligraphers in Baghdad.

From 1969 he continued his studies at the National School of Fine Arts is Paris [École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts].

His body of work is an interesting mix of traditional Middle-Eastern calligraphy techniques and Western influences. Please watch the interview with the artist himself at ArtKillsArtists.
