Consumer demand can revolutionize the way fashion works as an industry. If everyone started to question the way we consume, we’d see a radically different fashion paradigm. [Carry Somers]
On 24th April last year, 1133 people were killed and over 2500 were injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Carry Somers and Orsola de Castro launched a campaign entitled Fashion Revolution Day. Their aim is to bring people's attention to the consequences of consuming fast fashion.

NASA's Z-2 Suit prototype Option "C" ["Trends in society"]
First time ever, NASA asks the public's opinion on the next generation of spacesuits. Have a look at the there prototype options here and vote for your favorite, for the one that NASA should build. Fashion infiltrating NASA... who would have thought? It is usually the other way around.

THE MUCH MUCH collective - Henriëtte
2014-03-25
THE MUCH MUCH is a collective of 18 fashion designer graduates from ArtEZ [Arnhem, the Netherlands].
It is very refreshing to see graduates to stick together and present their work as a group.
It has been nearly twenty years since six young Dutch designers [Pascale Gatzen, Saskia van Drimmelen, Lucas Ossendrijver, Rolf Snoeren, Viktor Horsting en Marcel Verheyen] similarly from ArtEZ presented their collections in Paris together under the name Le Cri Néerlandais. They achieved great things together and later individually, hopefully the The Much Much has a similar path ahead of its members.

Not my words unfortunately, but I like it very much how Guillaume Janssen describes the Norwegian Deaf Center's album, Pale Ravine in his review for Spellbinding Music.
White Lake is definitely the standout on this album for me, repeatedly.

Food enrichment from Portugal
2014-03-10
Not long ago Colin McDowell wrote an article on fashion illustration for Business of Fashion. I read that article with great pleasure and agreed completely with him that "in a photography-saturated age, perhaps it’s time to recapture the power of great fashion illustration." He also argues that although there is great new talent out there they are given alarmingly few opportunities in mainstream fashion media.
To make my point with the tuna fish package is quite simple: illustration does attract consumers. It has playfulness, colours, sometimes a certain rapidity, all things that feed the inner child in us. Maybe it's time to use (fashion) illustration in new ways, in new products.

"We should all do a little less, sit more and do nothing but enjoy the music"
2014-03-08
Nils Frahm portrayed by Michal O'Neal
Nils Frahm came for the 5 Days Off Festival to Paradiso and it was a delight. At the end of his show, he shared one of his stories about how he started to play in the Kleine Zaal (small room, ca. 250 guests) of Paradiso. He of course was dreaming secretly that one day he would show in the 'Grote Zaal" (large room, ca. 1500 guests) of Paradiso. His wishes got fulfilled - well, I wish he plays in the Concertgebouw one day (and we will be seated).

Look Nr. 13 from the Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear presentation of Alexander McQueen.
It is not what it seems, that is what I like about it the most. It is all feathers, and not fur, as one would assume based on the image. Would love to know the the person(s) whose hands made it.
